Moto X arrives contract-free for $299 on Republic Wireless, plans start at $5

Republic Wireless has entered the big time. The Sprint MVNO is now offering the Moto X smartphone for just $299 without a contact. Elsewhere that setup will run you upwards of $500. Not only that, but Republic Wireless is offering monthly plans that start as low as $5 per month.
Until now, Republic Wireless was known for offering users unlimited talk, text and data for just $19 per month. But it only had the older Motorola Defy XT to offer it on, which wasn’t even very good when it first came out over a year ago. The Defy XT is still available for a cool $99, but unless you absolutely need a water-resistant device you’re better off springing for the Moto X, which is one of the best Android phones available right now. And you’ll be saving money on those cheap monthly plans, after all.
The new monthly plans start at $5 per month, which gets you unlimited talk, text and data over Wi-Fi only; you don’t actually get any cellular coverage with this plan. $10 per month gets you the same setup, along with unlimited talk and text over cellular. $25 bumps things up to unlimited 3G data, while $40 gets you unlimited 4G data. Keep in mind that with those 3G and 4G plans, your speeds will be throttled if you exceed 5GB of data per month. You can check out a full breakdown of pricing in the image below:

Since Republic Wireless is an MVNO of Sprint, it means you’ll have coverage wherever Sprint service is available. It also means you’ll have access to Sprint’s 4G LTE network if you select the $40 monthly plan. That’s a really great deal compared to Sprint itself, where a similar plan would cost you twice as much per month.
